Every once in awhile, WWE creative does something completely out of left field that doesn’t make a ton of sense on paper, but it’s interesting enough that you need to see the angle in action before making a quick judgment call.

The latest angle like that is revolving around WWE repackaging Darren Young with a new gimmick that will also give him WWE Hall of Famer Bob Backlund as a manager.

According to a report from DailyWrestlingNews.com, there will be a backstage segment during tomorrow night’s SmackDown where Young asks Bob Backlund to be his “life coach.”

Backlund agreed and together they created the slogan to “Make Darren Great Again.” The WWE Hall of Famer also informed Young that “wrestling is life.”

Again, this is a concept that is completely out of left field, but WWE is making an obvious reference to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and you never know the reactions something like this could get with a live crowd.

It’s good for WWE to try “something” with Darren Young because he wasn’t doing anything significant and the idea of “making wrestling great again” could really get some steam with Bob Backlund behind the “campaign.”

Do you think this gimmick could work with Darren Young and Bob Backlund as a duo?
