This news should come as no surprise since it leaked back in February that King Barrett would not be resigning with WWE and would be leaving the company when his current contract expired in June.

It’s roughly a month early, but today WWE has officially announced the release of King Barrett and made the following statement along with every other released superstar that has been announced so far:

“WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstars King Barrett, Santino Marella, Cameron, Hornswoggle, Alex Riley, El Torito and Zeb Colter as of today, Friday, May 6, 2016. WWE wishes them the best in all of their future endeavors.”

We’ve already reported about the release of Alex Riley, Hornswoggle, and Zeb Colter as well as Cameron, El Torito, and Santino Marella. However, King Barrett’s release is particularly disappointing.

He was last seen on WWE programming after Wrestlemania 32 when he was kicked out of The League of Nations before the entire group imploded shortly after. That’ll be the last image of a talent who should have been much more than he ultimately became.

After his release, Barrett made the following statement about his time with WWE and wrote a heartfelt goodbye note:

Do you think Barrett was misused during his time with WWE?
