Rusev Wins United States Championship at “Extreme Rules”

Tonight, Rusev defeated Kalisto successfully captured the United States Championship for the second time in his career.

At the peak of his initial run on the main roster, winning the US title is what catapulted Rusev and Lana into stardom and made Rusev a monster heel.

Since losing his first match and his US title to John Cena at Wrestlemania 31, he’s been on a downward spiral that effectively killed a lot of his momentum over the last year.

Kalisto did the most he could during his reign with the United States title, but a lack of focus and a lack of television time didn’t give him the title reign that he was capable of having.

It was a solid reign, but Rusev’s victory tonight is a huge step in the right direction for him. His win over Kalisto was dominant and put him over very well.

The only issue here is John Cena is due to return next week to Monday Night Raw, and it was recently rumored that he will be reclaiming the US title.

Cena winning the United States Championship over a heel is a good idea, but is it going to thwart the second heel run of Rusev before it really gets started?
