Rey Mysterio has been doing some very good work outside of WWE. He’s been an amazing presence during Lucha Underground’s second season, which is going to culminate with “Ultima Lucha 2” very soon.

However, there have been some rumblings that one of the names WWE was going after is Rey Mysterio. There isn’t much information about it other than WWE is interested, but this isn’t the first time they’ve tried.

Back in February, there were an onslaught of rumors about Mysterio potentially returning to WWE before Wrestlemania 32. However, that obviously didn’t happen and was just a flare up on the Road to Wrestlemania, which is frankly full of rumors.

It was revealed during that time that Mysterio is signed through 2017 with Lucha Underground. Of course, he could breach his deal and there can be a parting of the ways.

That doesn’t seem like a great idea considering how wonderful Mysterio’s run in the promotion has been. He’s been featured heavily, is a former Trios Champion with Dragon Azteca and Prince Puma.

It’s unclear why he would want to leave the promotion at all, but it seems like WWE is just actively making phone calls to everyone they can think of to see who is available and who is not. Obviously, Mysterio name came up, but many stranger things have happened.
