On SmackDown Live this week, Jeff Hardy defended the United States Title against Eric Young of SAnitY. The match ended up being a no contest and eventually became a six-man tag team match, which was the result of the injury Shinsuke Nakamura’s suffered on Tuesday. The Hardy vs. Nakamura feud hit a snag but it should continue very soon.
The expectation is The Charismatic Enigma will be dropping the US Title to The King of Strong Style sooner rather than later. His reign as champion has proven that WWE isn’t finished showcasing Hardy as a singles star in the company, but it’s coming to light that WWE officials are planning to make some major changes to Jeff’s on-screen character.
According to a report from WrestlingNews.co, Jeff Hardy hasn’t been doing his finisher, the Swanton Bomb as often during WWE live events. After building a career as a huge risk taker, the fans have noticed him slowing day his wrestling style. No one is immune to age, especially someone like Jeff who’s taken many dangerous spots over the years.
It seems that Hardy is suffering from the same kind of perception issues that Mick Foley had to deal with in his career. After taking big risks for so many years, it’s all that some fans want to see from you. WWE officials clearly don’t need Jeff to jump off ladders for him to be successful, and there could be some character changes to make that clearer.
WrestlingNews.co has also reported that a character makeover could be coming for The Charismatic Enigma and the signs of that change have already been shown in the feud with Nakamura. Moving forward, it seems WWE officials are trying to make things a lot safer for Jeff Hardy because the last thing anyone wants to see is the end of his career.
Do you believe Jeff Hardy should stop taking big bumps?
