Every single year, WWE pushes the “Hell in a Cell” PPV by saying it’ll change careers and provide insane brutality. However, it’s hard to really make these matches feel brutal or important when they’ve become extremely tame in comparison to the past.

They don’t have to be Foley vs. Undertaker to be successful, but something like Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt was a lot of fun last year. This year, WWE will be having three “Hell in a Cell” matches on one PPV card and the first women’s “Cell” match in history.

That’s a tall order for WWE in roughly three hours. Heading into it, we got the cliche Mick Foley “Cell” promo. It works well because of his history and the “I still can’t walk” part was moving, but we know the history. New stars need to make it.

The fear going into the PPV is WWE will simply put Sasha Banks and Charlotte into the match and expect it to be a huge deal. That’s not how it works. The thing about women’s wrestling in WWE is they’re quite tame. Even a little bit of brutality will go a long way.

None of the matches need to tear the “Cell” down or bleed all over the arena to make the match meaningful, but we need to see something we rarely get to see.

WWE can book a Steel Cage match anytime they want on Raw or SmackDown. It’s not just about seeing WWE Superstars fight in steel anymore. “Hell in a Cell” is about the characters and the stories. That’s what the fans remember.

This can be summed up very easily. Tell better stories, you’ll get better reactions.

Do you think WWE needs to bring brutality back to “Hell in a Cell?”
