Mike Kanellis Returning to NXT Instead of Main Roster

As of this writing, it’s okay to admit that Mike and Maria Kanellis haven’t lived up to the hype since their debut on WWE television. The couple was a force to be reckoned with on the independent scene and it seemed that WWE officials wanted to push them as a major power couple on SmackDown Live, but things haven’t worked out that way at all.

Their initial push didn’t connect with the WWE Universe and some personal problems outside the ring stalled their push entirely. Mike Kanellis hasn’t been heavily featured at all on Raw since his move during the Superstar Shakeup. Maria Kanellis is still at home recovering after giving birth two months ago to the couple’s first child and daughter.

On social media, the idea was brought up to move Mike Kanellis to NXT and the current WWE Superstar had the following thing to say about the possibility of being demoted:

Originally, the WWE Universe believed that Mike and Maria would be going to NXT over the main roster. That wasn’t a critique on their gimmick or their talent. It just seemed to be a better idea for them to establish themselves with a fanbase that was familiar with their shtick. Instead, WWE officials tried to build their character on Maria’s reputation.

At the moment, NXT is overloaded with talent and even more are coming in over the summer. The power couple could make a run for WWE’s hottest brand, but it’s going to take something big to rebuild their momentum and give them another opportunity on the main roster to change their careers for the better after a year of struggling so hard.
