Kofi Kingston winning the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35 as part of The New Day is one of the greatest feel-good moments in WWE history. However, a lot of people aren’t too thrilled with the way Kofi’s title run has gone over the past several months.
Dolph Ziggler, Samoa Joe and others have done good work and Kofi’s done everything a champion is expected to do. However, some of the WWE Universe believes that his run has been lackluster. The feud with Randy Orton heading into SummerSlam is a quality rivalry with some history, but WWE officials may be ready to pull the plug regardless.
According to RingSideNews, a source told Tom Colohue that WWE officials have been struggling to think of rivalries for Kofi and they’re now at a point where he’s going to be dropping the WWE Championship or the powers that be are out of feuds for Kingston
Apparently, Eric Bischoff has an eye on Daniel Bryan. WWE could start Bryan vs. Kofi back up after SummerSlam if Kingston retains against Randy Orton. However, that may not solve the problem. In addition, there are other factors influencing their decision.
According to another report from RingSideNews, The New Day’s merchandise has taken a dip for the first time in six months. That’s a big indicator to show WWE officials that a lot of fans are losing interest not just Kofi’s WWE Title run, but in The New Day stable.
It’s unclear what the powers that be are going to do. Randy Orton could take the title off Kofi at SummerSlam, but that’s a big loss for him to take. Ten years ago, Orton “stopped” Kofi’s main event push. How would it look if Kofi loses to Orton over a decade later?
Would you have Randy Orton win the WWE Title at SummerSlam or have Kofi retain?
