Next week is the debut of WWE’s Smackdown on the USA Network. There have been rumors of major changes coming for the brand, and it began with WWE hiring Mauro Ranallo to be the voice of Smackdown.

WWE is preparing the show to be a big deal in their programming again. Now that the brand has a voice, there needs to be a foil, and the question is who WWE will put next to Ranallo to be his color commentator?

The current announce team consists of Jerry Lawler, Rich Brennan, and Booker T. It’s a solid combination, but there is no confirmation about who it will be next to Ranallo.

Today, Lawler was answering some fan questions on Twitter. The subject came up, and The King said he will remain on the broadcast team. He posted the following on Twitter:

Jerry Lawler is a good commentator, and he’s been doing the job for a long time. He’s a familiar face and has built quite the fanbase within the WWE Universe.

Clearly, WWE is very serious about rebranding Smackdown for USA. Keeping Lawler is good for now, but we’ll get a much better idea of the best commentary combination after a few weeks, and we see the chemistry of the announcers with Ranallo.
