Almost two weeks ago, the current NXT Champion Finn Balor went down with an ankle injury. There has been a lot of speculation about his injury status and how that is going to affect NXT and any plans WWE has for Balor on the main roster.

Luckily, it is now being revealed that Finn Balor’s ankle injury is nothing more than a severe sprain, and he’s expected to make his return to the ring as early as this weekend. WWE has sent out the following tweet showing the latest update on the current NXT Champion:

Tomorrow, the No. 1 Contenders match between Sami Zayn and Samoa Joe will air on this week’s edition of NXT. The winner of that match will go on to face Balor at NXT Takeover: Dallas in several weeks.

Sami Zayn is moving on to face Shinsuke Nakamura at that event, so it’s very unlikely that he’ll be winning the match unless he takes his title shot earlier than this April.

Therefore, Dallas is expected to be the rematch between Balor and Samoa Joe for the NXT Championship. The last time those men faced off, Balor barely survived Joe in London.

That match between Balor and Joe will have an immediate impact on not only NXT but the main roster of WWE because the loser will most likely be called up as early as the Monday Night Raw after Wrestlemania.

That’s a major booking decision to make as multiple new stars come into the brand and WWE takes some of the great talents from NXT to the main roster to cut their teeth.
