Last week, Rich Brennan was released by WWE alongside fellow announcer Kyle Edwards.

It’s a yearly routine for WWE to wish some of their talent the best of luck in their future endeavours. However, it’s being reported this week that Brennan’s release wasn’t planned.

According to a report from ProWrestlingSheet.com, his release came as a big surprise to Brennan. The former voice of NXT was said not to be prepared for his release, but he remains positive about his future.

Apparently, his release was done over the phone by WWE officials, and much of his surprise was due to being assured from the same WWE officials back in late 2015 that his job was secure despite WWE hiring Mauro Ranallo as the voice of SmackDown.

Rich Brennan is still under a non-compete clause in his contract for a few months, so he’s got some time to plan his next move in this industry or if he wants to move to another business.

As of this writing, the impression from the report is that Brennan’s release was due to budget cuts and there doesn’t seem to be anything unprofessional that led to his release from the company.

Do you think Rich Brennan had some talent as an announcer?
