When someone reaches an incredible length with a championship, the question becomes just how long they will hold the title. While that might not be in sight for a reigning champion, he has now set another milestone that no one has ever previously reached.

As of Thursday March 21, Gunther has reached 650 days as Intercontinental Champion, extending his record reign with the title. Gunther won the title on June 10, 2022 and has held the title since, setting the record for the longest reign in the title’s history in September 2023. He is currently scheduled to defend against Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 40 on April 6 or 7.

Opinion: It’s amazing to see what Gunther is doing as he is literally rewriting the record books every single day. No one has ever gotten this far into a title reign before and it is remarkable to see just how far he can go. It makes his title defenses feel all that much more important, as the question becomes who can take the title from him. That is going to make for a huge moment, both for the new champion and for Gunther at the end of such an epic reign.
