They’re jumping the gun a bit. We are less than five days away from the Royal Rumble and that means most of the card is already set. That means it is time for fans to start guessing what is going to happen in the show’s namesake matches, as they are some of the most important matches to take place over the course of the year in WWE. This time around though, WWE is letting us in on some things earlier than usual.

During this week’s Monday Night Raw, Edge made a surprise appearance and announced that he will be entering the Royal Rumble on Sunday. This will mark his first match since April 2020 when he tore his tricep, putting a hold on his return which started at the 2020 Royal Rumble. That return began with a surprise Royal Rumble appearance, so why is WWE doing things differently this time around?

According to Fightful Select, WWE announced Edge’s return on Monday Night Raw instead of saving it for the Royal Rumble due to not having a crowd for the pay per view. Instead, WWE is attempting to create some buzz around the event by having such a big name return. During his promo on Monday Night Raw, Edge said that he was starting a new journey and wanted to win the World Title at WrestleMania 37.

He sounds back to me. Check out what Edge had to say:

Opinion: I understand the idea here, but there is something ot be said for the idea of having Edge return as a surprise rather than telling everyone in advance. At the end of the day, it is kind of annoying to have so many things taken away from the fans at home because of the lack of a crowd. I get why WWE thinks this way, but at the same time, it doesn’t do much for the much larger audience elsewhere, including those who would be watching the show anyway.
