Can you blame them? We are in a completely different world of wrestling at the moment as the Coronavirus has changed how everything works. Wrestling has been shaken up in almost every way, with one of the biggest changes being the lack of fans in the arenas. There may be a few fans here or there, but there is a small fraction of what was there before. That is becoming a problem for the wrestlers for a reason unique to them.
While there have been no fans in the WWE arenas, you can still hear the sounds of the people. WWE has pumped in canned audio throughout the television shows, which can make things a lot easier in a hurry. Now WWE can have the crowd noise sound any way they like because they are producing it themselves. That works great for the company, but not so much for the wrestlers.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, some of the lower level wrestlers do not like WWE’s control over the crowd noise as there is no way for them to be elevated unless WWE wants them to be. In normal times, the live crowd reaction may be able to help boost a wrestler up to another level but now it is all at the whim of the company’s decisions. There is no word on when WWE will have fans back at any significant level.
Crowd noise can help a lot. Check out some great reactions:
Opinion: That’s a very reasonable complaint as the wrestlers are right: they have very little way to move up the ranks and they can no longer point to the crowd reactions to make a case for themselves. That is the kind of thing that has moved some wrestlers up the ladder before but until the fans are back, the options are extremely limited. Hopefully something can be figured out soon, because this is quite unfair to the wrestlers in general.
