That’s certainly a surprise. We are coming up on the start of a new year and that means WWE can shake things up a bit. It can help to have something fresh for the sake of trying something new, and hopefully that is the direction they take. One of the best ways to do that is to elevate someone new to the main event scene, and someone will get that chance next week.

As we close out 2020, it is fairly obvious that it was the year of Drew McIntyre. After winning the Royal Rumble, McIntyre went on to hold the WWE Championship for more than half of the year in a pretty impressive pair of reigns. That momentum is likely to carry over into the new year and now we know who is going to be coming after McIntyre’s title to kick things off.

This week on Monday Night Raw, Keith Lee defeated Sheamus to earn the first WWE Title shot of the new year, as he will challenge Drew McIntyre on the January 4 Monday Night Raw. Lee defeated Sheamus with a Spirit Bomb and then stared McIntyre down after the match was over. This will be Lee’s first shot at the WWE Championship after being called up to the main roster in August.

Opinion: I know this is probably just a one off match and there is nothing wrong with that. Lee has not really done all that much since being called up so it is nice to see WWE do something with him, even if it is something short term. Sheamus will likely get involved, but I’ll take whatever I can get from Lee at this point. On top of that, Lee vs. Sheamus was a pretty good power brawl.
