You don’t get too many of those. Legends are a huge thing in wrestling, but that can create a problem: if the best wrestlers are all in the past, what is the point of watching today? One of the easiest ways is to create new legends, but even that is far from easy. It can help to have a top prospect available, and the wrestling world seems to have that, even thirteen years after it first wanted to bring him in.
Former UFC Bantamweight Champion and Flyweight Champion Henry Cejudo spoke to TMZ Sports and revealed that he has been training in wrestling with Chavo Guerrero Jr. Cejudo has mentioned entering professional wrestling before but never has wrestled a match. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE recruited Cejudo following his Olympic gold medal win in 2008 but Cejudo opted for mixed martial arts instead. There is no word on if he will enter professional wrestling in the future.
Cejudo, 34 years old, is an Olympic gold medal winner and only the fourth person in UFC history to hold two titles simultaneously. He has a career MMA record of 16-2 and last fought on May 9, 2020. Cejudo would vacate both titles before retiring from mixed martial arts immediately after his last fight, though there has been speculation among MMA commentators that he was only retiring as a ploy to get higher pay.
Opinion: Now this one could be interesting as Cejudo is small enough to be a different kind of wrestler. He is about the same size as Mysterio but with that kind of amateur and MMA background, it is easy to see him becoming a big star. I’m not sure if he should be jumping straight to WWE or AEW, but if he has any kind of talent in the ring, he is certainly worth a try somewhere.
How would Cejudo do in WWE? Who is the best MMA fighter turned wrestler? Let us know in the comments below.
