It’s a risk. This past week’s SmackDown saw the first half of the 2020 WWE Draft, which means a lot of changes took place in a single night. That can make for quite the interesting evening, as some of these changes are a lot bigger than others. There was one in particular which shook up quite a bit at once, but it turns out that WWE has a plan in mind for what they are doing.

The big move of the night saw Big E. drafted to SmackDown while Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, now the SmackDown Tag Team Champions, were sent over to Monday Night Raw. The moves marked the official split of the New Day, meaning the trio is apart for the first time in over five years. That is quite the change, and now we know WWE’s mindset behind the move.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the idea behind the split is to allow Big E. to become a singles star on his own. The problem with a Big E. singles push as part of the New Day is fans will want the team to be back together and ignore the idea of Big E. on his own. Big E. has been pushed as a singles wrestler like Woods was recovering from his torn Achilles and Kingston took some time off.

I’d say they’re emotional. Check out how the trio is handling the split:

Opinion: I’m not sure what to think about this move just yet as the idea of a Big E. singles push is intriguing, but at the same time this team has been so popular and successful that it is hard to say goodbye. They could put together something great here, but my goodness it is taking a risk. That is the kind of thing that WWE needs to do more often, but I’ll have to see what is coming from this one.

What do you think of the move? Will Big E.’s push work out? Let us know in the comments below.
