What could have been. One of the biggest WWE surprises of the summer was the return of Roman Reigns after several months away. Reigns had missed most of the spring and summer, including WrestleMania 36, due to concerns over the Coronavirus but came back at Summerslam. The following week he was Universal Champion again, and WWE had some major plans in mind. However, one of those plans seems to already be over.

When Reigns returned to WWE, he attacked the Fiend immediately after he won the Universal Title. One week later at Payback, Reigns took the title from the Fiend by pinning Braun Strowman in a triple threat match. The move was part of Reigns’ heel turn and seemed to set up the Fiend as a face for the first time in his career, but things are not exactly going according to plan.

According to WrestleTalk, WWE has dropped, or at least postponed, the Fiend vs. Reigns feud. The two have had little interaction in recent weeks, with Fiend moving on to feud with Kevin Owens while Reigns has been involved with Jey Uso. There is no word on why WWE made the change, though Alexa Bliss, who has been associated with the Fiend in recent weeks, glared at Reigns on a recent SmackDown.

It was fun while it lasted. Check out some of their previous showdowns:

Opinion: I’m not sure what to think of this, but it might be a lot better to have them wait a bit at the moment. Reigns is on fire as the new top heel on SmackDown and there is no need to risk cooling him off with something like a feud with another monster. Also, Fiend isn’t quite a face yet and might not be for a good while. Let things grow a bit and then see where we are from there.
