They gave him a fair warning. Wrestling has changed a lot in the last two years, as we now have another large scale promotion in the United States. AEW has become a new platform for wrestling in America and things seem to be rolling along. WWE seems to have taken notice of them, though you rarely hear it from them. It does however seem that a pretty high level name in the company has heard a thing or two about it though.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE President Nick Khan was warned about AEW becoming competition before he accepted the position. It is not clear who told him this, but Khan was told that changes needed to be made to WWE to allow them to deal with AEW. During Khan’s tenure, about 100 wrestlers have been let go from WWE, ranging from former World Champions to NXT wrestlers.
They may be right about competition. Check out what AEW has been offering its fans:
Opinion: I know WWE might not officially say that AEW is competition and it isn’t like WWE is in any serious danger, but the new company does not seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. It would be ridiculous of WWE to not keep an eye on what they are doing and follow some of their leads. WWE needs to make some adjustments of their own, or the gap might close sooner rather than later.
