That’s a serious problem. Wrestling has been around for a very long time and there are some ideas and stories that are always going to work. Some of these might feel a bit dated at times, but that does not mean they have stopped working. One of the most common has been the American hero against the menacing foreigner, who is often Russian. That was almost the case again a few years back in a big way.

There are very few wrestlers in history on the same level as Kurt Angle. After winning a gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics, Angle took the WWF by storm and wound up becoming one of its biggest stars ever. He left for Impact Wrestling in 2006 and stayed there for the better part of ten years before coming back to the WWE in 2016 for his Hall of Fame induction. Angle also wrestled a handful of matches before retiring in 2018, but there was one major match that never took place for a good reason.

In a chat on Twitch, Miro, formerly known as Rusev in WWE, talked about trying to get WWE to bring Angle back in to face him in a Russia vs. America match. However, Miro was told no because a WWE official told him “we don’t want to feel responsible if he comes back and dies.” Rusev and Angle never wrestled in WWE as Angle retired from in-ring competition at WrestleMania 35 in 2018.

The two of them could have done some things. Check out how they both looked:

Opinion: I’m not sure how this would have gone but the story would have written itself. Rusev was on fire back in 2015 and it would have made a perfect setup for a match with Angle. I can get the lack of enthusiasm from WWE, but that is about as blunt of a reaction as you can find. Angle wrestling was always a scary prospect, but I don’t know if it would have been that bad.

How would you have seen the match going? Would you have wanted to see it? Let us know in the comments below.
