Sounds smart to me. Last week on SmackDown, Roman Reigns turned heel for the first time in several years in quite the shock. Fans have been clamoring for something like this for a very long time now and believe it or not, it has actually happened. That is the kind of thing that can shake up WWE in a good way and it might just do that. It is an interesting idea, but where did it come from?

The heel turn came in a way that was even more surprising than most as Reigns joined forces with Paul Heyman of all people. That was hardly something expected as Reigns and Heyman had been adversaries for a long time due to Heyman’s association with Brock Lesnar. Reigns and Heyman always had chemistry together, but seeing them together was mind blowing. Now we know a rather interesting detail about the heel turn.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Reigns requested the heel turn when he returned to the company after his five month absence. It is not clear why he requested the turn now after being a face for so many years. There is no word on who came up with the idea of putting Reigns and Heyman together, but Heyman does have some creative input on his own stories.

The two just work together. Check out Heyman and Reigns’ time together and apart:

Opinion: This is an interesting one as Reigns would have been the top face on any show but he chose to take a different path instead. That is a good thing so far, as a heel turn gave him a desperately needed change of pace. You can only be the same guy for so long with a lukewarm response before it loses all impact, which is part of why the heel turn worked so well. Good for Reigns for giving us something like this, because it’s a nice change of pace.

What do you think of the turn? What is next for Reigns? Let us know in the comments below.
