What an interesting tribute. There are some segments in wrestling that are both famous as well as infamous. Some of them were big hits for one reason or another at the time but when you look back at them, they make you scratch your head. There are some that are a good bit uncomfortable looking back, but many of those are ripe for parody. That was almost the case last year.
At New Year’s Revolution 2006, Edge cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase for the first time ever, defeating an injured John Cena to become WWE Champion for the first time. The following night on Monday Night Raw, Edge and his girlfriend Lita announced a live sex celebration in honor of his victory. The show was the highest rated episode of the show in years, and now enough time has passed to make it worthy of a tribute.
Drake Maverick was recently interviewed by Metro and mentioned pitching an idea to WWE to spoof the Edge and Lita segment with his wife Renee Michelle. The segment would have been the culmination of a series of segments that saw Maverick fail in his attempts to consummate his marriage to Michelle, usually over the 24/7 Title. R-Truth would have been involved in the segment and would have attacked Maverick to win the title back. WWE did not allow the segment to take place.
Maverick had some fun with the title. Check out some of his better moments:
Opinion: This sounds like it could be rather funny if WWE has gone through with it, though I can understand why they wouldn’t go for it. Just the idea alone is one of those things that could get them in some hot water, even if it was a very PG version. Maverick and R-Truth were some of the funniest people on Monday Night Raw during their time together and it is hard to imagine that Maverick would have kept his job without the storyline.
Do you like the idea of the segment? What did you think of Maverick vs. R-Truth? Let us know in the comments below.
