That came out of nowhere. We are in some confusing times in WWE as it isn’t clear how things are going to go from one day to the next. Last month’s massive releases/furloughs made things even harder to predict as you never know when someone might be wrestling their final match for the company. That was never more apparent than over this weekend in a surprise move.

This week, WWE began a tournament to crown a new Intercontinental Champion. A tournament is a great way to spice things up a bit as you can have a surprising name get on a roll and maybe make a run to the finals if not all the way to the title. There were some interesting names and possibilities in the current tournament but it turns out that one name won’t be getting a second chance.

According to PWInsider.com, Drew Gulak’s WWE contract has expired, making him a free agent. This comes less than a day after Gulak was defeated by Daniel Bryan in the first round of the tournament. There is no word on why Gulak has not re-signed and there is a chance that the two sides could work out a new deal. At the moment, Gulak is a free agent and can wrestle anywhere. Gulak has wrestled for WWE since 2016, mainly appearing on 205 Live but he has recently teamed with Bryan on SmackDown.

They’re giving up something good. Check out Gulak’s recent awesome work:

Opinion: I’m hoping that there is another explanation for this as Gulak has been getting more and more interesting over the last few weeks. Now he’s just gone after the tournament loss, which came out of nowhere. Maybe Gulak wanted out of the company or something went wrong backstage, but it’s something that is going to need some more information. If it’s just a financial move, they really had no one else to cut? Anywhere at all?

What did you think of Gulak’s recent work? Who will be released next? Let us know in the comments below.
