Everyone does it at some point. There are a lot of wrestlers in the world but only a handful of them can be described as a legend. Even fewer can be considered a legend in their own time. That is the case with a small number of wrestlers today, but even they have to hang up their boots at some point. It seems that we might be seeing that again, as one legend could be suggesting.

During a recent interview with Rasslin With Brandon F. Walker, Rey Mysterio said that he thinks he’ll “step back” when he feels his son Dominik Mysterio is ready to have his own career in the ring. Rey said he thinks that would be helpful for Dominik and hopes that it happens within the year. He did not however use the word “retire”. The Mysterios have teamed together since Dominik debuted in 2020, though they have both wrestled singles matches in their time.

Rey, 47 years old, has been wrestling since 1989, having debuted in Mexico before coming to the United States. He has wrestled for ECW, WCW and WWE, along with various independent promotions. Rey is a record eight time Cruiserweight Champion and a three time World Champion. The Mysterios have also held the SmackDown Tag Team Titles, holding them for about two months in 2021.

Opinion: You knew something like this had to happen eventually, but it is almost hard to fathom the idea that Rey could one day retire. He has been around for so long and still works well enough in the ring that he seems to have a lot left. That being said, if he wants his son to have a career of his own, Rey stepping away would make a big difference. You can only get so far with your famous father there and Rey seems to know that.

Do you think Rey will step back from the ring? How should he wrap up his career? Let us know in the comments below.
