WWE Hall Of Fame Speech Gets Mainstream Attention

It’s better than people not talking about them. Wrestling is in a weird place when it comes to celebrity status, as they are famous, but they are only famous for being wrestlers. Every now and then you find a wrestler who gets their name out there for something else, but they are few and far between. One of them got some attention this week during a special moment, though it was only somewhat for wrestling.

We are in the middle of WrestleMania week and that means there are a lot of things going on besides just the biggest show of the year. In addition to WrestleMania itself, WWE presents a variety of other events, including the Hall of Fame induction ceremony. This year’s was a special event as both the classes of 2020 and 2021 were inducted. A line from one of the speeches has gotten some attention.

The Bella Twins were inducted into the Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2020. During her speech, Nikki Bella thanked John Cena for helping her in her career. Nikki thanked Cena for teaching her about the business and helping her become more fearless. This mention received mainstream attention, from People and Access Hollywood. Cena has not responded to the statement.

Nikki and Cena dated for several years and were engaged in the middle of the ring at WrestleMania 33 following a mixed tag team match. The two would nearly marry but ultimately split up, as shown on Total Bellas. The Bella Twins have suggested that they will be back in WWE later this year. There is no word on if or when Cena will be wrestling for WWE again.

Opinion: This is one of those things where a single line being said got people’s attention for some reason. I can’t imagine that it is going to lead anywhere and is likely nothing more than a one off line. That being said, Nikki and Cena did work well together in WWE with Nikki becoming a better star than she was given credit for. It was nice to see the Bellas get their recognition like this and hearing Cena receive some credit was a nice touch.

In addition, it was nice to see wrestling getting some positive mainstream attention for a change. That is not something that you get to see very often and it was a nice moment here. How many times do you see wrestlers presented in any kind of a positive way like this? Sure it is because of a celebrity romance that was played out on reality TV, but some kind of a mention is better than nothing.
