The more the merrier. NXT has become quite the success for WWE over the years. What once was a competition series and then a low level web series has become a weekly show that is televised nationally. It came from nowhere and now even has a spinoff show in the United Kingdom. That was a nice little success and now NXT might be expanding again in a different direction.
More than one wrestling promotion has gone under over the last few years and that is the kind of thing that is rarely a good thing. One of the more recent changes was a bit of a boon to WWE though, as they acquired Evolve Wrestling, which had a bit of a nice reputation among some wrestling fans. With that came the mind of Gabe Sapolsky and now that mind might be put to another use.
According to Fightful Select, WWE has filmed a second NXT series, possibly called NXT EVOLVE. There have already been graphics and a title belt created for the series, which will heavily involve Sapolsky and Jeremy Borash. The series will be designed as more of a fight show with Josiah Williams as the host. There is no word on when the show will debut or where it will air.
WWE has some history with Evolve and some fighting stuff. Check out what they have done before:
Opinion: This is the kind of thing that could go in multiple ways though I’m not sure how such a unique concept will work. If nothing else, this feels like something that might take place on Peacock rather than regular television. That could work out well and if it gives some of the lower profile wrestlers a chance, that’s quite the upgrade on its own. I’m curious to see where this goes, but it could be in multiple directions.
