Welcome back. One of the most universal ideas in wrestling is having a themed show that takes place at a set time. It might be every few months or annually, but there are often shows that have a deep history to them, even if it might not be in the same promotion. WCW certainly had a long list of shows, and now WWE is dusting one of them off for a special event.
If there was one thing that Dusty Rhodes excelled out outside of the ring, it was naming shows. Rhodes had a great knack for coming up with catchy names that WCW would use for years to come. A lot of these names were picked up by WWE in their acquisition of WCW, though WWE has not done much with several of them over the years. Now though, they are bringing one back for next week.
This week on NXT, WWE announced that the July 1 edition of the show will be the Great American Bash. The event will feature a strap match between Dexter Lumis and Roderick Strong, a #1 contenders match for the Women’s Title between Tegan Nox, Candice LeRae, Mia Yim and Dakota Kai, plus Rhea Ripley vs. Aliyah. WWE ran the Great American bash as a pay per view from 2004-2008 and brought it back as a SmackDown special in 2012.

Opinion: Makes sense. NXT is up against the first night of Fyter Fest and it is a good idea to make it seem like next week’s show is a big deal. The Great American Bash is such an awesome name for a show and I’d love it if WWE started using it annually. There are so many awesome names out there and yet we are stuck with the same WWE names that they have used for years. You already own them. Spice it up a bit.
What do you think of the name? What other old show names should be brought back? Let us know in the comments below.
