It got their attention. The biggest wrestling story going at the moment is the ordeal over Cody Rhodes turning down the chance to face WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Instead, it appears that the Rock will be challenging Reigns, though the match has yet to be officially announced. This has led to quite the backlash, but now we know a bit more about the backlash’s reception.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: LOOK: Brock Lesnar Further Removed From WWE Following Vince McMahon Lawsuit
This week’s Monday Night Raw opened with Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes in an in-ring segment. Rollins made a reference to the Rock, which led to anti-Rock chants, including “ROCKY SUCKS”, which was a chant that led to Rock’s initial heel turn in the 1990s. According to WrestleVotes, “certain people” were “thrown off” by the chants. It is not clear how or if WWE will adjust course with the story.
I am told the “Rocky Sucks” chants that took place last night on RAW totally threw certain people off.
While this “viral reaction” story was leaned into last night, that part of it was something unexpected.

It was going to be bad. Check out what the Rock has done and how he has been received since his return:
Opinion: This is kind of the result that you had to expect, as the fans are clearly not happy with almost anything about this. I’m not sure what this is going to mean for the story going forward, but for now, the Rock is not the most popular name in WWE and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. WWE is likely going to need to make some adjustments, but now we have to see if they will.
