One of their own. There are all kinds of people who make a wrestling show work and several of them have nothing to do with the in-ring action. Those are the people who help put the shows together in one way or another, which can make for some interesting situations. Some of those people are former wrestlers and now a wrestler is getting a spot backstage in WWE.

According to Bodyslam.net, independent wrestler Patrick Scott has been signed as a writer’s assistant on SmackDown, starting earlier this week. Scott posted a tweet saying he would have more to say on it later and thanking everyone. Scott trained to wrestle in the Carolinas and began his in-ring career in 2016. He wrestled as an enhancement talent on NXT in 2017.

Opinion: This is an interesting one as WWE rarely hires wrestlers for writing roles. Maybe things are changing a bit, as these roles normally go to writers in one form or another. I’m curious to see if this leads to a regular change, as it could make for an interesting new reality. While not every such role needs to be filled by a wrestler, there is certainly a place for some of them on the team.
