That would be a twist. There are certain ways to freshen up a wrestler’s status and the most common is often to switch them from good to evil or vice versa. This opens up a variety of doors for fresh stories, some of which might have seemed impossible before. That might be what we are seeing again, as a career villain might be showing signs of changing his ways.

According to Wrestlingnews.co and Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE may be planting seeds to eventually turn Gunther into a babyface. This includes Gunther showing uncertainty over his ability to win matches and his dislike of Finn Balor interfering in his match against Damian Priest at Survivor Series. There is currently nothing to indicate that WWE is planning to do this at the moment and it should be seen as speculation.

Opinion: I’m not sure I can imagine this happening, but maybe WWE is planning to try it down the line. Gunther feels like someone who could be a major star for a long time to come, but he feels like someone who is destined to be a villain for most of his career. There is always the chance of it working, but at the end of the day, Gunther as a villain works so well.
