It Worked Before: AEW Reportedly Running Storyline Based On Classic Hollywood Film

That’s a new/old one. Every so often, you will see a wrestler debut a new character that fits them to perfection. It can make for quite the change of pace as the change can open up all kinds of new doors. At the same time, it can bring in different characters, some of whom have never been around before. We might be seeing the same thing again as a new AEW story is coming together.

In recent weeks, AEW’s Toni Storm has debuted a new character described as Timeless. Storm has aired vignettes in black and white and spoken like a classic Hollywood movie star. Last week, Mariah May made her debut and said she was looking forward to meeting Storm. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the storyline will be based on the 1950 film All About Eve, which was said to have been guessed by fans. The story involves a young, up and coming actress being mentored by an aging star, with the new star using the veteran.

Opinion: This has potential and I would have been surprised if Storm hadn’t been focused on a classic film. It makes perfect sense for everything that she is doing and could be quite the boost for May as she starts out in AEW. I’m curious to see where it goes from here, even if the film’s plot is right there. AEW doesn’t have to follow the story to the letter and that opens up a lot of options.
