He’s in charge. The concept of an authority figure has been a factor in wrestling for a very long time now and introducing a new one can be a big deal. It happens in a variety of promotions and some promotions will have more than one person making decisions. Now we are seeing a promotion add multiple figures in a short time, with another being added this week.

Over the last few months, the Young Bucks have exercised more of their authority as Executive Vice Presidents in AEW. They attacked AEW President Tony Khan, leaving him away from the shows for several weeks. Khan returned to AEW TV last week and was present last weekend at Double Or Nothing. However, this week, Christopher Daniels revealed that Khan had named him Interim Executive Vice President, where he will serve as Khan’s mouthpiece. There is no word on when or if Khan will appear on AEW TV again.

Opinion: While there has long since been an official boss in AEW, it is quite the change of pace to have people fighting over control of the company. I’m not sure how long this is going to last, but it certainly feels like a different direction after years of something else. Maybe this is the change that is needed, as having Daniels around to balance out the Bucks a bit should help.
