Mission accomplished. There are all kinds of goals that can be taken care of during a match, with some of them being more complicated and intricate than others. Those are often the ones that you might not notice at the time and are more what people backstage want to see happen. That is what we saw this weekend, as a match accomplished the goals of the promotion putting on the show.

Last weekend, AEW presented its annual Forbidden Door event. One of the featured matches on the show saw AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone defeat Stephanie Vaquer to win the New Japan Strong Women’s Title, becoming a double champion. According to PWInsider.com by way of Cagesideseats.com, the match has received internal praise, with Vaquer being credited with getting over with the live crowd. Mone reportedly wanted to “make” Vaquer during the match. There is no word on when or if Vaquer will wrestle for AEW again.

Mone has done well in AEW. Check out her and Vaquer’s time in the company:

Opinion: This shouldn’t be the biggest surprise, as the match was one of the better things on the card. Vaquer was only barely known in AEW when she came into Forbidden Door and needed a boost from Mone to make it work out this well. At the same time, Mone held up her side in the match as well. It was quite the display and that is exactly what it needed to be and more.

What did you think of the match? What is next for Mone in AEW? Let us know in the comments below.
