WATCH: WWE Hall Of Famer On Possible Royal Rumble Return

Thanks but no thanks. There are all kinds of names throughout the history of wrestling and some of them are absolute legends. You see them pop up every now and then, with some of the appearances taking place in the annual Royal Rumble. The match is a great place for legends to show up, but now one of the all time greats is turning down the chance to return before he is even asked.

During a recent interview with Bill Apter, WWE Hall Of Famer Ricky Steamboat was asked about a hypothetical offer to return for this month’s Royal Rumble. Steamboat said that his reaction would be to decline, as he does not have it in his heart anymore and calling it too big of a stage for him. Steamboat spoke about his match with Chris Jericho in 2009, calling it the last match that was up to his standard. This comes after Steamboat, 69 years old, wrestled his first match in 12 years in November 2022, teaming with FTR to defeat Brock Anderson, Jay Lethal and Nick Aldis.

Opinion: Steamboat is one of those legends who does not have many complaints about his career and if he does not want to do this again at his age, that’s hardly a complaint. One of the cool things about the Royal Rumble is seeing who is out there again, but it isn’t like most of the legends are going to be there for any kind of a serious comeback. Why let yourself risk serious injury or embarrassment when you already have that kidn of a legacy?
