Two in one. There are all kinds of titles in wrestling and it can be a big deal when someone wins a championship, either for the first time or regaining it. A title change can come after a short or long feud but it will feel like a big deal either way. That was the case this week, as a pair of title changes took place on the same television show, albeit in some rather different kinds of matches.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: First Time: Becky Lynch Sets WWE Milestone This Week On Monday Night Raw
Two title changes took place this week on AEW Dynamite. First, Kazuchika Okada defeated Eddie Kingston to win the Continental Title. This marks the splitting of the Continental Crown, with Kingston retaining the Ring Of Honor World Title and New Japan Strong Openweight Title. Later, in the show’s main event, Adam Copeland defeated Christian Cage in an I Quit match to retain the TNT Title.
It was a busy night. Check out the title matches, plus another champion in action:
Opinion: This is the kind of show you do not see very often as two title changes in one night is a pretty rare thing. Okada winning the title to break up the Triple Crown is a surprise after the unification was such a big deal but he is a bigger star than most. On the other hand you have Copeland getting the title back, which should wrap up the feud between he and Cage for the time being.
