They came back. We are in the middle of a big transitional period for WWE as several changes are being made. This goes all the way from the top of the company and down through the ranks, including all the way down to the developmental program. One of the weekly developmental shows is going away, but there is one show to go. A lot of wrestlers seem interested and that was on display this week.
This week’s edition of NXT was the final show before the Worlds Collide special on Sunday September 4. Worlds Collide is scheduled to be mostly a battle between NXT and NXT UK stars with titles being unified. As a result, several former NXT and NXT UK stars, plus a UK wrestling legend, appeared on this week’s show in surprise roles. The following stars appeared, with most offering encouragement to the champions set to defend their titles on Sunday:
Finn Balor
Nikki Ash
Doudrop
Finlay
Butch
Shayna Baszler
Gunther
Rhea Ripley
Ciampa
Ricochet
Of the ten, Ash/Doudrop and Ricochet are all set for title matches at Worlds Collide, with Ash/Doudrop challenging Katana Chance/Kayden Carter for the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles and Ricochet challenging Carmelo Hayes for the North American Title.
There were some big surprises here. Check out some of the appearances:
Opinion: This show did a great job of making me more interested in seeing Worlds Collide and a lot of that was due to the guest stars. These names are major stars of NXT/NXT UK’s history and the titles mean a lot to them. It makes sense to have them show up because Sunday is going to be a major event, both for NXT and NXT UK. If the show goes well, everything will be fine and they did a good job of making that feel more likely here.
