We’ve got a running gag. All kinds of things take place during a televised WWE event. This includes everything that you will see watching the broadcast but there are other things that are reserved for just the live crowd. Those are things that might not be as serious and that makes for some rather fun moments. Now it seems that two prominent WWE names have a running joke going.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Across The Pond: WWE Announces The Return Of International Event
WWE has posted a video to YouTube, showing an off-camera moment from Monday Night Raw where Pat McAfee led the crowd in singing Happy Birthday to Michael Cole. McAfee told the fans that it was Cole’s 60th birthday, though this is not exactly true. Cole is currently 55 years old and his birthday is December 8. McAfee has done this off camera at multiple Monday Night Raw’s this year, including in Lexington, Kentucky on February 12.
It’s a funny bit. Check out McAfee’s song, plus some other Happy Birthdays in WWE:
Opinion: This is the kind of harmless gag that the fans are going to get into and it makes them feel special. There are very few better ways to get the fans into a show than by having them involved in some way. Even if it has nothing to do with Cole’s actual birthday, a majority of the fans are not going to know that, and even fewer of them are likely going to care that it isn’t true. It’s a funny joke and the fans seem to like it so why not?
