WATCH: Major Title Change Takes Place This Week

He did it. Title wins can be game changing moments for a wrestler’s career, especially if it is the first time they have won a specific championship. It can signify that they are moving up the ladder and doing something new for the first time ever, which you do not see that often. We saw it again this week though, and it might result in someone becoming the new face of a show.

The main event of this week’s NXT saw Trick Williams defeat Ilja Dragunov to win the NXT Title. This marks Williams’ first reign with the championship and his second title overall in NXT, following a North American Title reign last year. Had Williams lost, he would have been forced to leave NXT due to pre-match stipulations. The loss ends Dragunov’s reign at 206 days.

Opinion: I don’t think they were exactly trying to hide what was going to happen in the main event as that stipulation was hard to avoid. That’s not a bad thing in this case, as it was more about saying “here it is” and then wanting the fans to watch as a result. The fans certainly reacted to what they were seeing and that is about all you can ask for in this kind of a situation.
