She’s #1. There are all kinds of titles and championships in wrestling, many of which have been around for a long time. Some of those titles have quite the iconic history in their promotions, but they all have one thing in common: they had to start somewhere with an inaugural champion. That is what we saw this week, as a champion was crowned for the first time.

This week’s Monday Night Raw saw Lyra Valkyria defeat Dakota Kai to win the inaugural WWE Women’s Intercontinental Title in a tournament final. Following the match, General Manager Adam Pearce presented Valkyria with the title and the two hugged. The win marked Valkyria’s first title on the main roster, though she is a former NXT Women’s Champion.

Opinion: There are certain matches which are historic for reasons such as this, which is exactly what happened here. What matters the most is that Valkyria is now getting into some more success on the main roster. You do not see that kind of thing happen very often and there is a good chance that it could be a launching point to the start of a rather nice run for her career.
