She did it. Titles are some of the most important things in all of wrestling as they identify the top wrestlers in any promotion. It makes sense to have titles on big names, though occasionally they are in place to help build wrestlers into bigger stars. That can take time but has to start somewhere, which is what we saw this weekend as an inaugural champion was crowned.

Over the weekend at NXT Battleground, Kelani Jordan became the inaugural NXT Women’s North American Champion by winning a six way ladder match. Jordan defeated Sol Ruca, Jaida Parker, Michin, Lash Legend and Fallon Henley to win the title. General Manager Ava announced the title back in April at NXT Stand & Deliver, with qualifying matches being held to earn spots in the ladder match.

That’s the first. Check out the ladder match and the new champ in action:

Opinion: Jordan is a good choice for the first champion as she is someone with some incredible athleticism and the fans have gotten behind her so far. What matters here is that she has won something and that is at least a first foot up the ladder for her. I’m not sure how well this is going to go, but WWE has done something to attempt to make her a star and that is the right move.
