WATCH: Gable Steveson Makes Very Important Decision About Wrestling Future

He made his decision. There are all kinds of ways for an athlete to make it to WWE but some of them are less conventional than others. One of the most common is to have a wrestling background, but very few are the best wrestler in the world. At the moment, WWE has that kind of wrestler on the roster, and now it is time for him to take a huge step forward.

This week on NXT, Olympic gold medal winning wrestler Gable Steveson was set to announce his future plans. After listing off his options, including returning to college wrestling or competing in the 2024 Olympic Games, Baron Corbin interrupted and told Steveson he needed to leave. Steveson then challenged Corbin to a match at the Great American Bash on Sunday before giving Corbin a suplex. The match was made official later in the night. There is no word on if Steveson still plans to return to amateur wrestling in the future.

Opinion: This is something that had to happen sooner or later, as Steveson is approaching two years with WWE and he has yet to get in the ring. WWE has put a lot of time, money and effort into him but they have yet to get anything in return. That can be changed on Sunday, and Corbin is a great choice for his first opponent. Corbin is a veteran who can walk Steveson through the match, which almost has to go well for the sake of Steveson’s future.
