Nice to see you! One of the bigger wrestling stories of 2020 was WWE releasing dozens of wrestlers from their contracts in the span of a few days. That is the kind of move that changes the way the company looks, but it also shakes up other companies as well, as they are now going to have a lot of new talent available. One of those stars made his debut for a new promotion this weekend.

Wrestlers who have been released from WWE often bring up an interesting question: how much can they do without WWE behind them? They may have been stars in WWE at one point, but was that more because they were working for the biggest company in the world, or because of who they were? That can make for some interesting discussions, and now we might be seeing someone else put to the test.

Yeah he’ll do. Check out Impact Wrestling’s new debut:

Matt Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder in WWE, made his Impact Wrestling debut on Saturday night at Hard To Kill, where he defeated Ace Austin via disqualification. According to PWInsider.com, Cardona is expected to work this coming week’s Impact Wrestling tapings, though it is not clear if he will be sticking with the promotion after that. Cardona had a short term run with AEW last year after being released from WWE.

Opinion: Now this could be interesting as Impact seems like a good place for Cardona to appear, assuming he wants to stay there. Cardona certainly has both charisma and in-ring talent so this could work out well, though hopefully he isn’t paired up with Brian Myers again. The team was fine while it lasted, but it would be nice to see what Cardona can do on his own outside of WWE.
