Remember him? The rise of AEW has changed the wrestling world as there is now another large scale wrestling promotion where stars can go instead of WWE. The company’s roster includes a variety of former WWE stars, though occasionally those wrestlers will leave AEW and head back to WWE. That was the case again this week, though things are not exactly as they were before.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Move Over: International Star Reportedly Coming To WWE After Long Speculation

Over the last few weeks on NXT, a series of vignette have aired, with text discussing what a person really is and showing what they are about. This week on NXT, Ridge Holland was in the ring when another vignette aired. Shawn Spears then appeared and attacked Holland. Spears left AEW last year and is a former WWE Superstar, where he wrestled under the name Tye Dillinger. He was identified as Spears on the NXT broadcast.

This could be interesting. Check out the return, plus Spears’ former time in WWE:

Opinion: This took me by surprise as I certainly wasn’t expecting Spears to be the reveal. Spears had only been wrestling sporadically for AEW when he left and yet here he is again, following quite the absence from WWE. It’s a surprise way to go and I’m curious to see where it goes. This felt like the AEW version of Spears in WWE and that could be a rather different way to go.

What did you think of the return? How will Spears do in WWE? Let us know in the comments below.
