For the first time. While WWE might be the biggest and most successful wrestling promotion in the world, they are not the only option. There are countless other promotions throughout the world, many of which have incredibly talented wrestlers. Those other promotions often have their own style and it can be great for a wrestler to see what they can do elsewhere. Now a veteran will likely be doing that for the first time ever.

In a video posted by Lucha Libre Online, former WWE World Champion Dolph Ziggler has challenged Ray Gonzalez to a match at WWC Euphoria on January 20, 2024 in Puerto Rico. While the match has yet to be confirmed, but if it does happen, it will be Ziggler’s first ever outside of the WWE system. Ziggler, who debuted in 2004, has wrestled his entire career either in WWE or in one of its developmental territories (Ohio Valley Wrestling, Florida Championship Wrestling or NXT). Ziggler was released from WWE in September.

Opinion: This is the kind of thing that doesn’t seem possible but somehow, here we are. Ziggler has been in the WWE system for the better part of twenty years and has never wrestled elsewhere. That isn’t something you often see but Ziggler has made it possible. Ziggler is an incredibly talented and successful wrestler, though now he is going to get to do something for the first time ever. That should help him get better, which could help him in his next career step.
