That’s how you heel. There are all kinds of ways for a villainous wrestler to make the fans hate him even more. Some of these things are classics that have been done for years, which are often the most successful things. WWE stars still do these things to this day and that was the case again over the weekend, as a reigning champion did something rather mean to a young fan.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He Did It! New World Champion Crowned Over The Weekend
Over the weekend, WWE held a live event in El Paso, Texas, featuring United States Champion Austin Theory defending his title against Bobby Lashley. On his way to the ring, Theory teased signing a fan’s notebook but dropped the pen and kept walking instead as a way to upset the fan. Theory has tweeted out a video of the moment, saying “don’t be mat at me for being The Greatest”. Theory went on to lose the match but retain the title when he was disqualified for using a chair.
This is good villainy. Check out what Theory did, plus his time on bigger stages:
Opinion: This is one of those things that works very well and always will. Theory made a young fan upset and therefore the fan was going to want to see him get beaten up. That is where Lashley comes in and it probably worked just fine. It is the kind of thing that Theory does well and continues to make him feel like an even bigger bad guy along the way. Once someone gets to take Theory down, things like this will make it all the sweeter.
What do you think of Theory’s actions? Who will take the title from him? Let us know in the comments below.
