Video: Top Ten Greatest Announcer Calls

Gordon Solie would be proud. The announcer is one of the most important things in wrestling. They serve as your guide for the matches and tell you what things are going on, why they’re important, and tell the story that the company wants to get over. While things have changed a lot in recent years, there are still enough great calls over the years to show you how important these can be. That sounds like a countdown.

Greatest announcer calls: WWE Top 10, June 30, 2018

WWE has released a new Top Ten list looking at the Greatest Announcer Calls of all time. These are all from WWE and range from the late 1980s until modern times with a variety of commentators being covered. Most of these are calls that have been covered several times before over the years and there aren’t very many that are going to be surprising. There are also several notable calls missing from the list.

Opinion: Wait what? I was enjoying this list throughout but kept waiting on Mick Foley winning the WWF Title and Michael Cole saying “Mick Foley has achieved his dream and the dreams of everyone else who has been told you can’t do it”. That never showed up and I’m not sure I can buy the idea of that not being one of the ten best calls ever. Anyway, this is a very enjoyable list as these calls are great for a reason: those lines are mostly perfect for what’s going on and they really do enhance what we’re seeing. You can still hear them in your head and that’s not going to change.
