It’s something new. WWE is the kind of company where wrestlers will come and go quite often over the years. I’m sure you can remember several names who were around for a bit and then left without making much of an impact. At the same time though, there are some wrestlers who are lifers in WWE and seem to be with the company no matter what happens. That is the case with a current Monday Night Raw star but he is changing things up a bit.

There are very few wrestlers in the history of WWE with the kind of success that Randy Orton has had. Orton debuted on the main roster back in 2002 and has stuck around since, racking up almost as many World Titles as anyone in history. You could cut his career in half and still have a guaranteed spot in the Hall of Fame, which is all the more impressive when you consider how little Orton has changed over the years. That was not the case this week though.

It’s a very different way to go. Check out how Orton opened this week’s show:

This week’s Monday Night Raw opened with Orton in a mask, which showed several first degree burns on his face. This is the fallout from last week’s show, which ended with Alexa Bliss throwing a fireball in Orton’s face. WWE had issued an official medical update on Orton last week, saying that he had suffered minor burns. There is no word on if Orton will be wrestling in the mask in the future.

Opinion: I can certainly go for the idea of changing things up a bit, but this is certainly a big difference for Orton. I’m curious to see where things go with it, as Orton has a tendency to lean more towards the cerebral side rather than the physical, though he can do both rather well. This could go in a variety of ways but the initial idea is something that gives me some hope for where it is going.
