A different take on things. Wrestling and video games go hand in hand and always have. There is something very cool about being able to play a wrestling game as your favorite wrestler and simulate matches that you might not get to see everywhere else. Over the last few decades, WWE has dominated the wrestling games market with only a few games from outside breaking through. Another might be doing just that and it looks promising.
While WWE is the undisputed king of the wrestling world, there is a lot of other wrestling out there. This includes Japanese puroesu, Mexican lucha libre, British wrestling and American independent wrestling. All kinds of wrestling is available to anyone who wants to see it and now a new gaming company is taking some of the bigger non-WWE names and giving them a game of their own.
Fightful has released a new look at an upcoming independent wrestling video game released by Virtual Basement. The game is similar in nature to the WWE2K series, which will not be releasing a new game this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic. There is no release date or title for the game, but names already attached include:
Ken Shamrock
Enzo Amore
Matt Taven
Brian Pillman Jr.
Alex Riley
JTG
Shad Gaspard
Evan Bourne
Jonathan Gresham
Kenny King
Brian Cage
Bull Dempsey
Caprice Coleman
Shaheem Ali
Kongo Kong
O’Shay Edwards
Fallah Bahh
Amore was also a driving force behind getting the wrestlers to sign on and is pushing for Vince Russo to write the game’s story.
There are some very cool details to be seen. Check out a look at the making of the game:
Opinion: I’ve been retired as a gamer for a long time now but this does sound interesting. There are so many talented wrestlers out there who have nothing to do with WWE and after the mess that was WWE2K20, this might be just what the doctor ordered. I’m not sure how successful it would be, but there is nothing wrong with taking a shot and that seems to be the case here.
How does the game look? Who would you like to see included? Let us know in the comments below.
