So much for that. Last month, the biggest story in WWE was the night Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out on Monday Night Raw. The company has since responded to the departure, which included the Women’s Tag Team Titles being vacated. A tournament was announced to crown new champions, but there was no details announced. It turns out that the tournament might be in jeopardy.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the tournament will not be taking place whatsoever, at least for the time being. There had been a four team tournament pitched but nothing was ever signed off on and no plan was ever officially made. There is no word on how the tournament will take place, or if anything will happen whatsoever. WWE did not reference the tournament or the titles this week on Monday Night Raw.
Opinion: I would like to believe that the titles are done for good, as there is little reason to have them around. As nice of an idea as they might be, WWE does not have the depth in the women’s division to make two more titles work. They barely have enough room to make two singles titles work, along with the 24/7 Title. Drop the idea and let the division work a little bit better.
