The future is more clear. One of the biggest stories of the last few years as well as in WWE history took off last year when SmackDown moves to FOX. The series instantly had the biggest potential audience that WWE had seen in a generation while also making the company more mainstream. That is something that WWE had been wanting for years and now we know a bit more about their future.

One of the most important things that FOX received from SmackDown is fresh content during the television off season. Most shows run for twenty two weeks a year but WWE offers new content every single week. That gives FOX a big leg up for thirty weeks out of the year and played a major role in their decision to use WWE programming. It seems that the idea is something they would like to continue.

FOX released its schedule for the 2020-21 television season, which still includes SmackDown on Friday nights from 8pm-10pm. This comes as the show’s viewership has fallen in recent weeks, meaning that FOX is still comfortable with the numbers they are receiving and believe in the show’s future. WWE began a five year contract with FOX when SmackDown began airing in September 2019.

The show already has a history. Check out some of its moments:

Opinion: This is kind of a relief as there was no guarantee that the show was going to be sticking around every week. That is still the case as well as the numbers have not been great in recent weeks. However, if FOX is stilling to announce SmackDown for another year, it is clear that they see something in WWE. Hopefully they can last all five years, as the company’s future on FOX will determine how things go once they leave FOX.
